B.5.SD:4.5 - Obtain only the further construction needed for a useful answer

Locate the consequential gap. Identify the question an additional calculation, experiment, consultation or design operation would answer. Compare the attainable contribution with its cost, delay, risk and displaced work under C.11.DUA.

Consider several continuations. A joint test may answer the interaction question. A narrower claim may be sufficient for current use. A revised design may remove the uncertain interaction. Another available result may apply. Deferral may be warranted if the required basis cannot be obtained. Use present adequate knowledge before demanding new evidence.

Arrange the selected inquiry’s method, capable provider, resources and permission. Its completion does not imply permission for the later action. Return its findings through their actual applicability, then reconstruct the connected answer. If the new evidence changes a premise that affects other conclusions, use B.5.RR to follow and revise the affected reasoning while preserving independent support. Then return that revised contribution to the connected answer.

A useful result can be a precise open question with a feasible next construction. State what is already supported and what cannot yet be relied on. Do not call the whole issue resolved because the group agreed how to investigate it.
