C.11.DBR:11 - SoTA-Echoing
| Practice and source | Problem-solving contribution and limit | Incorporation here |
|---|---|---|
| Current architecture-decision practice: Microsoft, Maintain an architecture decision record | Context, rationale, alternatives and consequences make later reconsideration intelligible; a changed decision is recorded separately, preserving its predecessor. This supplies recoverability, not a test that a later outcome materially changes a particular use. | Adopt recoverable reasons and historical continuity in §§4.1 and 4.3. Adapt the receiving form to an ordinary statement: this cross-domain Method requires neither an ADR template nor a status log. §§4.2 and 4.4 add the comparison and current-choice connection. |
| Adaptive management and learning about decision elements: Williams and Brown, 2018, a theoretical anchor | Revising knowledge of system behavior and revisiting the decision elements are different learning questions. Its renewable-resource setting supplies an explicit account of recognizing and adjusting those elements through experience. | Adapt that distinction in §§4.1–4.4: an outcome can alter an assumption, a criterion or a current alternative. Keep the natural-resource models and recurring management arrangement in their subject practice; one useful return here needs no institutional learning programme. |
| Current finite choice and direct subject follow-up: C.11, STR.2/.12, EAM.13, OCE.13/.14, PSD.14, OPS.16, MNT.13 and HCD.14/.15 | These Methods supply decisions or domain-specific preparation that a general account cannot replace. A sufficient direct follow-up is a serious alternative to reconstructing a generic account. | Reuse that direct Method at entry and in §4.4. The extra contribution is needed only while recovering reliance, testing materiality and bounding preserved uses remain unresolved. §5.3 retains the different subject returns. |
For the working question in §5.1, a decision log preserves why A was selected but does not align the two-report observation; a current choice comparison needs that alignment already supplied. The present Method obtains it, preserves the independent delivery obligation and supplies only the surviving choice. Once a direct subject treatment supplies those operations, adding this Method again brings no corresponding gain. This comparison concerns the stated use, not a claim of measured superiority over decision records or adaptive management.
