C.39.QR:1 - Problem frame

Use this when work proceeds through a part, model, example, sample, summary, proxy or delegated contribution, and someone must decide what its result establishes for the original question. The need arises in development, explanation, investigation and appraisal, especially when several transformations or handovers separate the question from the final conclusion.

Recover the original subject and required result, explain what the intermediate work establishes, and supply the grounds for returning that result to the original use. Where the return exposes missing work, develop that contribution or obtain its supplier. The first useful result is a warranted answer to the original question, or a precise account of what has been obtained and what still has to be done.

Use an already adequate direct answer. A local operation can finish under its own established criterion when the assignment is local. This Method is useful where a consequential return remains uncertain; ordinary continuation under unchanged, understood conditions needs no repeated reconstruction.
