Rich episodes preserve future distinctions and consume storage, attention and privacy allowance. Compact connections save work and conceal assumptions. Retesting every memory on every source change is wasteful; narrow invalidation can miss an altered governing condition. Familiar positive examples make learned recognition questions look better than they are.
