Practical entries
These are selected examples, not a catalogue of leadership situations or a boundary on what the methods can help with. Bring the actual difficulty. If none fits, use the Table of Contents and read the relevant pattern’s problem frame. An assisting agent can explain the methods in ordinary language: “Explain this and give me your comments without framework jargon.”
MISSING-HELP — The work waits for one person to intervene
- Situation: Participants know the work, but only the initiator explains the purpose, raises a concern or obtains needed help.
- Question: Which contribution is missing, and who can supply it under the actual conditions?
- First useful result or blocker: An agreed capable arrangement for the next needed contribution, or the specific missing competence, time, access or authority preventing it.
- Start with: LDR.1.
- Stop or return: Use adequate ordinary coordination directly. Return after a failed contribution, changed conditions or a new need for continuation without the initiator.
WHOLE-AGREEMENT — Each offer is plausible, but they do not fit together
- Situation: A customer accepts a date, a provider offers help and a manager promises time, but the full arrangement cannot yet be performed.
- Question: What complete proposal can the affected parties actually accept and supply?
- First useful result or blocker: The same feasible proposal accepted by the parties whose contributions it needs, or an explicit unresolved condition or refusal.
- Start with: LDR.2.
- Stop or return: Do not add a negotiation procedure to an already sufficient agreement. Reconsider the affected whole when a relied-on contribution changes.
UNANSWERED-QUESTION — A productive discussion still leaves no usable answer
- Situation: Participants have shared views and evidence, but the receiver cannot use them to settle the technical or practical question.
- Question: Which relation or inference is missing, and how will capable participants construct it?
- First useful result or blocker: A connected explanation or proposal for the receiving use, including a justified inquiry proposal when evidence is missing, or the exact unavailable subject contribution.
- Start with: FPF B.5.SD.
- Stop or return: A competent direct answer needs no workshop. Return when a consequential premise changes or the receiver cannot use the proposed result.
JOINT-START — Get from a promising idea to a useful contribution
People understand parts of a proposal, yet advice, objections, commitments and actual work do not connect into a supported beginning. Use LDR.4 to connect the proposal to its real consequences and obtain the contribution needed next. Missing authority, means or agreement remains explicit.
Name the receiving work and keep sufficient help. Obtain trusted judgement, examine the consequences, and answer objections or retain an unresolved concern. Agree feasible contributions and obtain effective authority. Make the same start mutually visible, complete the first useful handover, and continue with the help still needed. Reopen the affected question when conditions change. These moves need not become a sequence of meetings.
Trusted advice can improve a proposal without authorizing it. An answer can be sound without being acceptable to a contributor. Acceptance can be real while its required budget remains unavailable. A shared start can be understood while the first handover still fails.
Begin where the actual gap lies. If a sound proposal is refused because it displaces another obligation, use LDR.2; repeating the explanation adds no missing capacity. If everyone wants to proceed but the technical consequence is unknown, FPF B.5.SD obtains the missing domain reasoning. LDR.1 arranges the capable help those methods require and returns when continuation fails. Each supplying pattern provides the explanation needed to perform and adapt its Method.
A prepared, authorized routine action can start directly when capable participants understand and accept the arrangement. An unresolved condition blocks only the work that depends on it. First use does not establish independent capability, enduring culture or the next development problem.
