A probe-related observation may prompt an explanatory question: which rival explanations predict the measured contrast under the stated perturbation? If the question is instead which available probe is cheapest or most discriminating for the current purpose, use C.11. The probe choice does not require an abductive prompt merely to acquire that input form.
