The operation between noticing and reasoning is often left implicit. Preserving a cue prevents loss; forming a model requires distinctions with which one can work. Articulation connects these contributions without treating a preliminary expression as either worthless or already established.
Meaning can change during formulation. Retaining the ability to revisit the originating experience allows that change to be examined. The practical aim is a contribution to inquiry or action, including a better question.
