CB.8:2 - Problem

A rule can be visible but hard to apply. “Be respectful” may leave participants unable to distinguish sharp criticism, repeated personal attack and refusal to provide private information. A long code may still omit who can decide or what happens when the moderator is involved.

Incident handling fails in several ways. An organiser can rush to judgement, demand an unsafe confrontation, repeatedly tolerate an action that prevents participation, or hide a correctable mistake behind the rule’s authority. A public explanation can itself disclose the information that should have been protected.

The task is to preserve useful participation while resolving the specific conduct question with an intelligible basis, an effective response and available correction.
