CB.9:4.4 - Agree contributions, benefits and control

Make each consequential commitment understandable to its contributor and receiver. State the work or resource, period, limits, support, compensation or reimbursement where applicable, and how an absence or withdrawal will be handled. Obtain agreement from the person or owner who can actually provide it.

Distinguish an invitation to contribute from an accepted assignment. Ask what a volunteer is willing and able to do; leave a reachable way to decline, reduce or end the contribution. If continuity requires fixed delivery, provide an arrangement that can carry that obligation, such as paid work, a confirmed rota with backup or a smaller promise. Appreciation through CB.6 can support a relationship; it does not supply missing labour.

Agree how benefits and costs are shared. Explain who can use the result, whether someone pays for privileged access, what a sponsor receives and how contributors are credited. Bring a contested distribution to those with the relevant mandate. Agreement can include an accepted asymmetry, such as an employer paying while independent practitioners receive open guidance; equal contributions are not a prerequisite.

When use and renewal of a shared resource are the difficulty, use ECO.7. Its arrangement connects access, use, upkeep, observation, response and adaptation. CB.13 supplies a missing community mandate; resource owners retain their actual rights. A majority vote among users cannot grant access that the owner has not provided.

Make sponsor influence legible. Agree who selects activities, who controls contributed material and what information may be returned. Provide a way to raise a conflict without risking loss of ordinary participation. If a proposed condition changes the original offer, return it to affected people before relying on their earlier agreement.
