DOCA.6:8 - Common Anti-Patterns and How to Avoid Them
| Anti-pattern | Why it fails | Repair |
| Keep only today’s best | Later reachability and useful exploration can disappear with a currently weaker candidate. | State the specific retention reason independently of current-front membership. |
| Keep everything | Retention consumes resources and loses its practical purpose. | Name the later use, cost, reconsideration trigger, and discard condition. |
| Every step starts from today | Earlier gains are counted again and earlier obligations vanish. | Reconstruct each step from its own inherited configuration. |
| First in the sequence means enabling | Temporal order is mistaken for a supported stepping-stone relation. | Obtain the exact connection to the later option. |
| Saved means available | A note is treated as reserved capacity, maintained capability, or permission. | Qualify actual preservation or label the option conditional. |
| More novelty means expanded possibilities | Visiting a region is mistaken for changing what the generator can admit. | Use C.18’s earlier/candidate space and mode claim only when the stronger distinction matters. |
| C.19 chooses my next probe | Pool treatment is mistaken for a local choice or permission. | Return the actual local decision and the probe’s own feasibility and authority question. |
