DOCA.7:4.4 - Treat conflicts before relying on the advice
Identify material financial, provider, employment, organizational, or other interests that can distort the requested service. Make their treatment explicit under the applicable relationship: disclosure, changed scope, independent assessment, recusal, referral, or another qualified response.
Disclosure alone may not make an incompatible engagement acceptable. A sponsor’s instruction to conceal a material interest or exclude a serious alternative can block the requested independent comparison. Return that service limitation; do not disguise it as a technical inferiority of the excluded direction.
For management consulting, ICMCI’s competence framework v4.0, C.1.1–2, C.2.1, and E.3.5 supplies bounded engagement, client-involvement, and conflict-disclosure guidance. These identified clauses inform the relationship question; the actual applicable professional requirements govern this service.
Preserve an independently qualified domain result within its established scope when a relationship conflict changes who may advise or how the result may be used.
