DTM.Preface:2 - How the language holds the problem together

The first part establishes what is being compared and continued. DTM.1 separates dependence from consequences. DTM.2 constructs the transmission event and any reconstruction of the variant. DTM.3 relates change within a participant to further spread and to conditions changed by that spread. DTM.4 distinguishes establishment, maintained use and return after intervention.

The second part explains why variants continue differently. DTM.5 separates changes within groups from their different contributions to what continues. DTM.6 builds the interaction through an actual intermediary. DTM.7 is narrower: it investigates whether a shared recognition or support relation sustains a result incompatible with its intended work. Neither competition nor disagreement automatically makes that last method applicable.

The third part distinguishes protective choices. DTM.8 locates the target of each action; DTM.9 models the response itself, including formation, memory, cost and indirect effects. A changing variant returns to the earlier continuation and interaction questions rather than forcing an endless escalation of protection.

A useful connection carries a result, not just a PatternID. An uptake account supplies an event and its conditions; a coupling supplies how participant state changes that event; a regime analysis supplies a conditional continuation; a protection comparison supplies feasible changes and their residual consequences. Keep those conditions when one person, specialist or AI hands the result to another.

Three structures can be present together without being identical: simultaneous constituent work, a network of contacts, and units of selection or reproduction. A team may execute one method vertical while its members exchange several procedures across different networks. The method vertical is not a population hierarchy, and a group in a statistical partition is not automatically a reproducing collective.
