Framework Boundary and Refresh

The framework covers value-oriented decisions about engineered assets and the practice that makes them. It can be used for one asset, an interacting System or a portfolio. It does not make every asset problem a portfolio appraisal or every maintenance programme an EAM task.

Use a sufficient direct answer from another discipline when it already resolves the question. Equipment diagnosis, design realization, financial valuation, operating control, organizational change and protected work retain their own competence, evidence and authority requirements. EAM integrates their relevant returns for the asset decision.

The sixteen PatternIDs identify continuing problem contributions. Their numbers provide addresses, not maturity levels or mandatory stages. A reader can return directly to the pattern whose premise or result has changed.

Revisit an asset result when its service requirement, demand, configuration, engineering qualification, option, cost basis, allocation, calendar or authority changes enough to affect the answer. Revisit a practice result when the actual provision, reusable operations, relevant people or evidence of use changes. Preserve a still-applicable result; investigate the changed question.

A new source edition or an attractive technology can suggest a question without proving a better Method. Compare what changes for the same use, what the evidence supports and the whole burden of obtaining and maintaining the result. Report a proposed trial as a trial, an obtained result as obtained, and a cultural observation at the population and occasion it actually covers.
