Preserve what the old words meant. For unchanged meaning and use, record a local rename or alias. A changed expression has a distinct F.17 cell; keep its naming lineage. If meaning or the named value changes, recover that change under its subject rule before settling the later name. Split or merge only when those relations hold. Keep at most one useful legacy alias per register, preserve the earlier text, and give readers the exact historical meaning and any justified path to the present name.
