GOALS.1:5 - Archetypal Grounding

A research team is told to “raise yield to 95% this month.” Current knowledge does not establish a method that can achieve it. The useful decision is whether to fund a new process. The team separates the desired production yield from this month’s inquiry: compare two feasible process variants under qualified measurements and return the conditions under which either merits further development. A well-supported finding that neither variant qualifies can complete the inquiry while leaving the production ambition unmet.

Now change the case: the process is established, materials and capacity are available, and the customer has an accepted delivery agreement. Renaming the production promise “learning” after a miss would change its meaning retrospectively. The team uses the promise’s actual terms, diagnoses the failure and obtains any needed change. The distinction depends on the original work and reliance, not on whether the reported number is favorable.
