GOALS.5:5 - Archetypal Grounding

The refund-service cycle in Reference:5 works this method through actual objectives, KRs, contribution agreements, review and closure. O1 commits to settlement and confirmation for the 100 opening cases. O2 pursues faster, less costly service for a separate incoming cohort, with an honest forecast short of the ambition and preserved contractual conditions. A separate learning goal draws on the same specialist. When repair becomes a prerequisite for payment, the parties change the order and allocation while retaining the customer obligation. The successful ending establishes each result from its own evidence and leads to ordinary service control plus a new inquiry. The contrasting ending keeps ten unpaid cases open even when the other goals succeed.

A software group wants customers to import usable records with less support work. Teams initially propose an importer feature, a help center and a support-call reduction. The group constructs one customer-result objective and tests the KRs against representative import cases, correction burden and the agreed quality conditions. The feature and help center remain initiatives. Support-call reduction is interpreted with successful completion and accessibility so that deterring requests cannot count as the whole success.

The teams discover that the same security specialist is needed for the importer and an existing contractual release. The contractual work has a current commitment; the importer improvement is aspirational. They retain the release, agree a later importer review window and keep a bounded investigation moving now. They do not treat the aspirational forecast as capacity that the release can use. A dependency failure is brought to the responsible parties immediately rather than waiting for the quarter review.

At the period end, customer outcomes improve for the supported file types, while a relevant new type remains unsupported. The group reports the actual coverage and decides whether the new type belongs in the next goal. A colleague who enabled security review and helped another team receives specific recognition; the ownership label on the main objective does not assign all credit. Any promotion decision uses the required personnel evidence under GOALS.8.

Contrast an established service with a clear daily response rule, adequate data and no current cross-team priority problem. Converting each queue measure into a quarterly OKR would add little. It can retain its service control and use a separate improvement objective only when a consequential change warrants one.
