HCE.Reference:1 - What is being changed, and for which result?
Human Capability Engineering concerns the deliberate formation, change, restoration and maintenance of a person’s capabilities. Its knowledge concerns human mechanisms and conditions of change; its practice constructs and tests ways of obtaining the required capability. A sufficient result can be a supported programme comparison or a justified decision to keep the present arrangement. A claim that the person has changed requires evidence of that change.
The object being changed and the result sought are separate questions. Current regulation of work, capability change and open-ended growth can each concern a person, an organization or a robot. In this Suite, the human is the capability holder. Its first edition supplies learning and bodily-modeling Methods for that target. The person may also be the practitioner carrying out the change, but a teacher, AI assistant or provider organization can make other contributions.
| Distinction | Consequence for choosing and using a Method |
|---|---|
| Target of change | A person’s capability, an organization’s capability and a robot’s capability require different accounts of what changes and how it can change. |
| Performer of the helping work | A person, AI or organization may provide a contribution. That choice changes the help available and its conditions; it need not change who is learning. |
| Result and recipient | The person may acquire an ability, a customer may receive a successful service, or a team may obtain a joint result. These results have different bearers and evidence. |
| Mechanism | Human perception, practice and bodily regulation differ from parameter training, controller design and actuator change. A common description of starting and required capability does not supply those different operations. |
For example, a person can produce an adequate report with an expert’s help while still lacking the expert’s diagnostic ability. The joint arrangement may be sufficient for the job. If personal capability is needed, HCD.11 and HCD.13 keep performance and support dependence identifiable. Withdrawing useful help is a separate choice, not an automatic improvement.
Regulating today’s attempt can obtain today’s result without establishing a lasting capability change. Learning an existing Method can establish the requested capability and finish there. Open-ended development connects such gains to new worthwhile attainable problems and, where needed, the development of ways to solve them; FPF C.40.OD supplies that larger construction. HCD.15 supplies a continuing human-capability arrangement when its conditions call for one.
