MA.7:1 - Problem frame
A period’s material cost can rise because more units were produced, the mix changed, more material was consumed per accepted unit or the price changed. A margin can also change because of recognition, shared assignment or capacity use.
An arithmetic decomposition helps locate the difference. It does not by itself establish why the quantities changed or which participant could have acted differently.
