MDPE.13:0.1 - Working Distinctions

NameMeaning here
variantOne musical or movement form, interpretation, occurrence, artifact, Method, teaching line, or event form being compared with alternatives. The word does not assert one common physical kind.
recognitionAn Agent or sensing System distinguishes a relevant difference under stated conditions. Exposure, a label, applause, or a metric does not by itself establish recognition.
selectionA local decision or a distributed cultural relation changes which variants are programmed, taught, funded, amplified, copied, used, or retained. A project choice and population-level cultural selection are different results.
recognition-and-selection arrangementThe people, organizations, technical Systems, Methods, authority, access, evidence, and feedback relations that make encounter, recognition, and selection possible for one bounded use. A rulebook or diagram can describe this arrangement but does not make it operate.
observation planThe subjects, conditions, observers or instruments, comparison basis, time horizon, and decision that later observations must support. It is not evidence that the predicted effect already occurred.

Use narrow actor names when they carry the meaning: dancer, partner, musician, teacher, judge, curator, organizer, participant, platform operator, or recommendation System. Say Agent when a person, organization, robot, or AI service actually chooses or develops a practice. Do not replace these useful names with the hypergeneral System.
