MDPE.16:0 - Use This When

Use this pattern when one score, format, canon, body model, technique, instrument setup, competition rule, school, market, platform signal, model score, or fashion is becoming the only development line before the important uncertainty has been reduced.

Typical warning signs are:

  • a competition or platform selects what is easy to judge or display, and hard-to-display variants disappear;
  • a teacher keeps only what beginners can copy quickly, removing distinctions needed for later mastery;
  • a production team stabilizes one reliable arrangement before testing a musically different branch;
  • a movement or music model optimizes one representation and loses variants useful to actual dancers or musicians;
  • one body, instrument, venue, robot configuration, or current capability becomes the assumed norm;
  • a presently weak variant is discarded although it preserves a useful contrast, source relation, future combination, or reachability into another region of the development space; or
  • an archive is mistaken for a live repertoire even though nobody can currently perform, reconstruct, or use much of it.

The practical question is:

Which materially different alternatives should remain usable for this development question, what actual conditions and available evidence support that use, and what change would require upkeep, a trial or a different disposition?

The gain is a small set of alternatives that a named Agent can still reconstruct, rehearse, perform, teach, or test when the next decision needs them.

Use a direct composition, choreography, improvisation, rehearsal, repertoire, curation, archive, production, teaching, rights, capability-development, tool, operations, or engineering Method without MDPE.16 when one branch and its later use are already known. Use MDPE.16 when a wider practice-development decision must keep several materially different branches usable and coordinate their different upkeep, evidence, and trials.

Do not use this pattern when:

  • the task is to generate and compare a small set of performance candidates—use MDPE.9;
  • one current OptionSet is ready for a bounded choice—use C.11 or the applicable domain choice pattern;
  • one change has already been chosen and only its performance and test remain—use the applicable direct Music, Dance, teaching, event, production, tool, or engineering Method;
  • the task concerns archive/front stewardship without a Music-or-Dance specialization—use C.18;
  • the task concerns a reusable pool policy without a Music-or-Dance specialization—use C.19;
  • the task is to establish present cultural continuation or loss—use MDPE.19 and C.36; or
  • the named objects are complementary parts of one project rather than alternatives for the same question.

If the development question, named later use or actual branches cannot be named, return the missing value and the decision it blocks. When availability needs upkeep or restoration, also establish the capable and authorized performer and direct Method before relying on that proposed Work. An already obtaining condition does not need a newly assigned maintenance task.
