MDPE.20:3.3 - Choose structures and representations for the forecast question

Name the world-side subject before choosing a representation. In a rhythm case, identify the actual Music or Dance material, Work, continuous carrier, events, positions, and temporal relations needed by the question. In a movement case, identify bodies, partners, movement and contact relations, figures, phrases, or performances. In a scene case, identify practitioners, events, schools, media, variants, and reproduction relations.

Then state:

  • the selected structure and characteristics;
  • the representation—such as notation, timing trace, video annotation, geometric rhythm space, movement features, repertoire relation, interaction graph, distribution, or historical tree;
  • the operations it supports;
  • the distinctions preserved and lost; and
  • the population and observations to which it is tied.

Changing the representation can change which regularities and candidate mechanisms are visible. Geometry is one representation family. Centrality, symmetry, distance, a local optimum, and a dynamical basin remain different relations even when drawn in one picture.
