MDPE.Application:5.2.4 - Apply the restoration to a cross-combination

Suppose a teacher proposes comparing two specified ways of performing a partnering task, taught locally as tango and tango vals. Two recordings are available, one classified locally as tango music and one as waltz music. Keep the actual partnering instructions and recordings with the comparison; their labels alone do not specify either the movement or the musical timing.

Partnering way usedTango recordingWaltz recording
The specified tango partnering wayFirst receiving caseSame partnering way with a different recording; determine the needed phrasing adaptation
The specified tango-vals partnering wayDifferent partnering way with the first recording; determine the needed phrasing adaptationFourth receiving case, with both the tango-vals instructions and the waltz recording identified

Each cell is a proposed use whose compatibility must be established. It is not a claim that every method bearing the label works with every recording in that musical category.

A comparison along a row changes the recording while retaining the selected partnering way to the extent its applicability permits. A comparison down a column changes the partnering way with the recording held fixed. A diagonal comparison changes both; its result cannot be attributed to just one hidden change. If adapting to the recording also changes a defining condition of the partnering Method, state that change rather than claiming that the Method was held fixed.

Thus “switch from tango to tango vals” is still insufficient. Say which instructions and which recording changed, what receiving result is sought, and what remains applicable. When the task is to book a milonga event, none of these four performance comparisons is required merely because the event shares a label with a musical or movement category.
