MDPE.Preface:5 - Conditions on a whole combination

A combination must fit the intended use as a whole. Preserve one common account of the performers and receiving conditions, the intended result, and the characteristics the trial must protect. A configuration tested with a familiar pair, a recording judged by listeners, and a lesson observed by its teacher may each be useful; a social-practice decision still needs evidence about coordination among the participants who will use it. When observations concern different conditions, identify the missing receiving trial before combining their claims.

Check the shared resources over the complete selected work. Include preparation, coordination, performer effort, the actual trials, observation, and the support required for another occurrence. Several individually affordable Methods can require the same teacher, instrument, floor, or event interval. State the local resource estimates and whether work can overlap; use the relevant operations Method when queues, recurring load, or money flow determine the decision.

For example, consider a constructed planning case with one shared 120-minute rehearsal. Setup and warm-up take 30 minutes, each candidate trial takes 20, the unfamiliar-partner transfer takes 20, and observation review takes 20. With three candidates the complete combination needs 30 + 3 × 20 + 20 + 20 = 130 minutes. Although any two of the activities fit, the whole combination does not. Testing two consequential candidates needs 110 minutes and preserves the transfer observation that the decision depends on. These are local estimates, not standard rehearsal durations. If fatigue or setup variability consumes the remaining ten minutes, revise the plan or narrow the promised result before treating the trial as sufficient.

The same condition applies to later reproduction. A retained variant needs the necessary performer capability, material, equipment, access, and recurring support together. Keeping a recording while losing the only teacher may preserve an archive contribution but leave the practice unavailable. MDPE.16, MDPE.19, MDPE.21, and MDPE.22 apply this condition to their selected branches. A change in a shared condition reopens the combinations that need it; results that remain valid in their original conditions can still be used there.
