Compare explanations of a pattern language
An engineer has a use-bounded description of an admitted Method for checking a claim against its source. The engineer now asks why the surrounding language separates source allocation, coherence checking and reconstruction: should those three entries become one review procedure? This is a constructed comparison. The engineer knows ordinary procedures and can consult the complete framework, but has no private authoring notes.
Use ME.8 for the claims describing the checking Method. ME.23 supplies the different answer about the language arrangement: its entries serve independent questions, with different useful results and source returns. The existing arrangement is candidate A. The author proposes a shorter paragraph, B, and a table, C, for the same receiving question.
B — Selected explanation in prose. Use ME.21 to identify which source contributions were carried into the language. Use ME.12 when a maintained claim contradicts its basis. Use ME.24 when a promised source contribution cannot be recovered.
Choose the entry for the missing result and return to the affected question and its basis. Grouping these entries does not establish parts of one Method; a MethodDescription still concerns its own admitted Method.
C — The same selected claims in a table.
| Current question | Contribution to obtain |
|---|---|
| Which source contributions were carried into the language? | ME.21’s source-allocation answer. |
| A maintained claim contradicts its basis. What needs correction? | ME.12’s coherence answer. |
| A promised source contribution cannot be recovered. What is missing? | ME.24’s reconstruction answer. |
Choose the entry for the missing result and return to the affected question and its basis. Grouping these entries does not establish parts of one Method; a MethodDescription still concerns its own admitted Method.
Make the comparison. ME.22 separates the available contrasts. B selects and rewrites content from A; A against B does not isolate a layout effect. C rearranges B’s selected claims while retaining its common conditions. B against C can therefore address that presentation difference. The full ME.23 account remains available for conditions or questions beyond this selected explanation.
For the stated task, the answer must preserve the reason for separate entries and select the first missing result. With an adequate allocation and one contradictory maintained claim, direct ME.12 use is enough. In a changed case, an argument needed for a new recheck becomes unavailable. Return the affected current-use claim and source relation, preserving the earlier answer and independently supported contributions. If the question becomes publication authorization, obtain that separately applicable result.
A reading comparison would keep the engineer’s preparation, task, source access, tools and permitted help comparable and retain the initial answer before giving a corrective cue. Record reading or source-return effort only when it is observed. A shorter paragraph or a table alone establishes no reduction in total effort, and a correct response establishes neither learning nor the effectiveness of the described Method.
The source comparison supports the selected claims and their returns. It supplies no observed advantage of B or C for this reader. Retain the existing explanation unless an obtainable comparison can establish a worthwhile change. If a needed relation is absent, restore that content with ME.8 or the applicable language answer before crediting a new form. If the promise is instruction, use the corresponding HCD or NSTD contribution and its evidence conditions.
