NSTD.1:8 - Common Anti-Patterns and How to Avoid Them
| Anti-pattern | What fails | Repair |
| Desired conclusion selects its own evidence | The account suppresses a relevant conflicting relation. | Compare the draft with the needed source relations and alternatives; change its selection or qualify the conclusion. |
| Unexplained selection | Neither the writer nor reader can say why a relation was included or omitted. | Recover that choice from the intended use and source; revise the selection where it fails. |
| Motivation as truth support | A moving narrative is treated as stronger evidence. | Route evidence to A.10 and keep motivation as reader-use support. |
| Unstated limit that changes reliance | A reader uses an incident chronology as its causal explanation. | State which causal claim is unresolved and where to obtain the needed account. |
