The serious smaller alternative is direct use of a competent current workflow and its operating rules. The Kanban Guide, May 2025, sections “Why Use Kanban?”, “Defining and Visualizing the Workflow” and “Improving the Workflow”, connects value, workflow definition, active management and improvement. Its treatment permits multiple workflow definitions and contextual additions; it is not merely a board or an activity count. Reuse such an account when it already makes the relevant promise, provision and response clear.

This Method adds a needed construction only when those answers remain disconnected for the receiving decision. In the PumpWorks case, a correct resource schedule alone leaves the specialist, incident-response, recovery and later-disposition questions unanswered. The remedy is to obtain those answers and reconcile their consequences, not to reject Kanban or impose another enterprise model. OPS.8–OPS.14 and OPS.19 retain the specific flow, scheduling, service and financial source qualifications. Their results are used under those conditions; neither this synthesis nor the worked cases establish superiority across operations.

Keep the simpler arrangement if it supplies the same judgement with less reconstruction. Reopen this choice when an operating method supplies the missing connection directly, a changed receiving condition invalidates a join, or use shows that maintaining the account costs more than the decisions it improves.
