PSD.15:11 - SoTA-Echoing

The practice question is how to develop a usable professional repertoire under heterogeneous situations and uneven evidence without turning either an incumbent school or each new technique into a universal answer. The selected line is contribution-first comparison, explicit assumptions and joins, representative testing of the claimed change, and local source/evidence refresh. It accepts the cost of maintaining differentiated offerings; a simple established Method remains preferable when it covers the use at lower effort.

How should unlike problem-structuring approaches enter the repertoire? Adapt explicit comparison of assumptions and contributions, with open family boundaries.A familiar three-school catalogue is cheap to teach but hides differences that change participation and result use. Sections 4.1–4.3 compare the contribution rather than require a fixed membership list.Smith and Shaw (2019) is an exploratory conceptual comparator; Kogetsidis (2025) is a later published-application line. Neither ranks Methods for this service. Reopen if a stronger account changes a load-bearing boundary or a representative case defeats the assumed fit.
Can current uptake evidence decide what to offer? Reject that inference alone; adapt reported applications as leads for candidates and source return.A publication-frequency rule is inexpensive but confounds search coverage and visibility with practitioner use or worth. Sections 4.4, 4.7 and 5.3 preserve those distinctions.Kogetsidis (2026 online), Europe and beyond, examines selected journals over 2010–2024. It is a current corpus-based comparator, not a census of practice or comparative effectiveness test. Reopen when new representative evidence changes the particular offering, not simply when another paper appears.
How should analytical advances change the repertoire? Adapt the specific value, model, uncertainty, sensitivity or information contribution needed by the use.Adopting an entire analytical process can preserve coherence when its assumptions hold; importing it wholesale can require missing values, probability or evidence. Sections 4.2–4.4 retain exact inputs and joins.Borgonovo et al. (2026), decision analysis in OR, is a contemporary synthesis of these contributions, explicitly not exhaustive of adjacent fields. It is not a Method-fit result for an engagement. Reopen on a materially better-supported analytical contribution or a failed input/return assumption.
What evidence warrants a Method improvement? Adapt examination of intervention configuration, interaction and outcomes at the claim’s grain.A technically valid output or favourable post-workshop rating is cheap to obtain but cannot alone identify the changed mechanism, comparative benefit or transfer. Sections 4.5 and 5.1 preserve trial type, comparator and confounding conditions.Franco et al. (2021), Taking stock of behavioural OR, synthesizes different intervention-study questions and designs. It supplies no universal causal estimate or trial recipe. Reopen when a stronger representative design or counterexample changes the evidence required for the offering.
