RMP.8:5.5 - Valuable uncertainty without an obtainable study
A historical synthesis resolves a chronology but leaves a scientifically valuable mechanism unexplained. The only currently proposed inquiry requires records that cannot lawfully be accessed, and no worthwhile obtainable substitute is supplied.
The historian returns the supported chronology and unresolved mechanism and selects no further study for the current allocation. The explanation remains valuable and incomplete. If an accessible archive later supplies material capable of discriminating the live alternatives, its contribution and burden can justify a new research choice. Neither an immediate commercial payoff nor an unused continuation form is a prerequisite for the present answer.
