Preserve useful practiceFamiliarity is not evidence of adequacy, but a suitable Method should not be replaced merely because change is possible.
Locate the defectMethod, description, implementation, capability and receiving claim can fail differently; the visible symptom alone does not identify the correction.
Criticism within the research purposeShared demands for inspectability coexist with different statistical, interpretive and historical criteria.
Evidence and whole burdenA discriminating comparison can improve many later studies, while its design, conduct and uptake consume real research capacity.
Change and continuityA useful revision must reach its users without transferring qualification evidence beyond its conditions or erasing consequential provenance.
