SYSE-CARD-01 — Release a mixed physical-and-software change without losing service, configuration, or evidence

  • Situation: A pump-station change combines equipment, control software and operating limits while the district-heating service must continue.
  • Question: What connects local design and test results to a defensible decision about using the changed station?
  • First useful result or blocker: A recommendation for a named configuration and operating use, carrying what the available results support and what still prevents release.
  • Start with: SYSE.1 for the project system and SYSE.2 for its intended use, or the first missing result if these are already understood.
  • Stop or return: Return the recommendation to the release authority when it can decide. Reopen only the conclusions affected by a changed configuration, use, source or observation.

In APP-SYSE-01, the station’s configuration PS17-C42 combines a pump-train modification and software changes. SYSE.16 identifies the surrounding heating arrangement; SYSE.17 finds the systems that may bear consequences, including connected users and maintainers. Their results let SYSE.2 describe the proposed operating use and the station arrangement that could support it.

SYSE.5 uses that account to develop different functional allocations and physical or software bearers. SYSE.6 compares these alternatives and selects the structures on which realization will depend. If no complete way of obtaining an included result is available, SYSE.24 compares arrangements such as adapting existing equipment or obtaining a supplied contribution, including integration and continued support. SYSE.3 then develops the required realization work and its means. An unsupported branch can return the project to the architecture choice.

SYSE.11 integrates the realized contributions and observes the increment in its named use. SYSE.13 identifies the resulting configuration and where it applies. These results give SYSE.4 a subject for interpreting the component, station and downstream observations. Component evidence supports only the claim and conditions for which it was qualified; it does not settle the station-use question. SYSE.14 consumes the configuration and qualified evidence to prepare the release decision, retaining the deciding authority and any separate permission.

The example’s recommendation remains conditional on a restored-function check and unresolved safety permission. A new component version reopens the claims affected by that version; it need not invalidate unrelated evidence. If the trial also used a new AI-assisted analysis method, SYSE.15 addresses its further use for the supported claim classes. SYSE.21 becomes relevant only when the question concerns transmission and retention across practitioners. A local trial and a claim about later cultural continuation need different results.

The same connections apply to other engineered systems. APP-SYSE-03 gives a software-only case with displayed alternatives and four limits: its one surviving architecture supports a specified canary, not unrestricted release. The specialist security result remains a premise supplied by that practice.
