Can we recommend a repair before it is ready to begin?
Yes, when the evidence supports the recommendation even though a condition for performing it is still missing. In the constructed PS17 application, the requested result is a bearing-replacement recommendation. MNT.6 - Diagnose Condition and Choose a Maintenance Response compares the supported responses. MNT.5 - Prepare Maintenance Service Capability, Spares, Tools, and Authority identifies the missing specialist return on the spare’s applicability. The advice is complete; actual replacement cannot begin.
If intervention is then selected and the applicability return arrives, MNT.7 - Coordinate Maintenance Intervention and Continuing Operation uses the operating-capacity result supplied in the case. OPS.10 - Qualify Capacity under Variability explains how such an operating contribution is obtained when it is needed. The case’s four-hour reduced-capacity allowance is distinct from the two-day lower-duty bridge that meets full present demand. The constructed whole-outage plan uses 225 of 240 minutes, including testing and hand-back. Changed demand or delay can defeat that fit.
The selected work proceeds only under MNT.8 - Isolate, Make Safe, and Authorize the Maintenance Intervention’s applicable protection and permission. MNT.9 - Perform and Record the Maintenance Intervention records what was actually performed and the resulting configuration; MNT.10 - Verify Restored Functioning after Maintenance qualifies the required functioning; MNT.11 - Hand Back and Authorize Resumed Use after Maintenance, with Certification Where Required handles control and resumed-use authority. These are separate claims, not a compulsory sequence for an advice request. Long-horizon recurrence remains unresolved. Stop at the adequate requested result, and reopen only the question whose evidence or operating conditions changed.
