Build a useful cultural or community contribution

Start with the change people need. A discussion group, a useful resource, learning and a dependable service can call for different contributions. The Community Building Readme offers three practical entries; its Preface explains how to connect the methods. People may also develop and use a practice independently.

Your questionOpenWhat you can obtain
Would a community help, or would a resource, learning or a dependable service serve people better?CB.1 - Choose a Useful Cultural or Community ContributionAn understandable proposal for who could benefit, what each participant would contribute and which first action could test it; an adequate existing route may be sufficient.
How can one request lead to useful help?CB.2 - Arrange the First Useful ExchangesA completed exchange, a known use or remaining gap, and a feasible continuation.
How can someone join, change their involvement or leave?CB.3 - Make Entry and Changes of Participation WorkableAn understandable next action with access to a response or help, and a workable way to reduce or decline involvement.
Which space and shared activity fit the purpose?CB.4 - Design a Space and Shared Activity for Its PurposeA feasible activity whose result or unresolved question reaches its next use.
How can participants provide a contribution that someone can use?CB.5 - Obtain and Return Useful Contributions from ParticipantsAn agreed contribution, receiving use or limitation, and a return to the contributor.
How should we recognise a contribution?CB.6 - Recognise a Contribution and Choose a Meaningful ResponseA truthful response the contributor can accept, with any offered benefit actually obtainable.
How can organising work continue beyond one person, or attention be shared during an activity?CB.7 - Prepare and Sustain Distributed OrganisingA willing, prepared person or temporary participant group with the time, support and mandate for its next contribution; a feasible successor or a reduced promise when continuity matters.
How should participation rules work when an incident or disagreement occurs?CB.8 - Make Participation Rules Usable and Resolve IncidentsAn applicable expectation, an authorised next action and a reachable correction or review route.
Who can provide the work and resources, and on what terms?CB.9 - Provide for Community Work and Agree Its TermsAn offer deliverable for a stated period, with actual contributions and a response to lost support; reducing or ending the promise may be appropriate.
What value did participation or cultural work produce?CB.10 - Understand the Value of Participation and Cultural WorkAn account of what happened, what the evidence supports, what remains uncertain and what to continue or change.
Should the arrangement continue, change hands, split, pause or end?CB.11 - Continue, Change, Transfer or End a Community ArrangementAn agreed continuation or ending with receiving work, provision and settlement of remaining commitments.
How can someone carry out a useful repeated action of participation?CB.12 - Support a Useful Repeated Action of ParticipationA feasible arrangement for one wanted action and a way to examine later opportunities, obstacles or a reason to discontinue it.
Who may make a shared decision, and how can it be challenged?CB.13 - Establish a Workable Mandate for Shared DecisionsAn effective mandate with understood limits and a challenge route, or the unresolved authority or agreement question.
How can a recurring practice difficulty lead to reusable help?CB.14 - Develop and Maintain a Shared Repertoire of PracticeA selected repertoire contribution, a willing and equipped provider and an intended receiving use.
How can people from different practices contribute to one useful result?CB.15 - Connect Practices through a Useful Joint ContributionAn agreed joint question, each side’s contribution, permitted material and access, and a worthwhile return.
How can a shared position enter someone else’s decision?CB.16 - Form and Carry a Collective Voice into a DecisionThe receiving decision, relevant positions and uncertainties, and who may present each position on whose behalf.

The common applications connect these methods for professional repairers, a voluntary garden, independent carriers of a practice and a customer community, with the specialist contributions each case needs.
