Evaluate instructional material for its intended use

| How should we judge a worksheet, explanation or learning route for its intended readers? | HCD.18 - Select or Construct a Characterization and Evaluation Specification for Instructional Material | A compatible evaluation specification, or a new one tying the audience’s tasks and allowed help to criteria, evidence and the use or repair decision. Use HCD.19 directly when a compatible specification already exists. Stop construction with the usable specification or a precise unresolved criterion. |
| Does this material support the reader’s task, and what needs repair? | HCD.19 - Evaluate Instructional Material through Representative Reader Work and Diagnose Its Repair | A supported material contribution, a limiting defect with its affected reach, or a specific criterion or evidence gap. Start with a compatible specification; use HCD.18 only if it is absent or unsuitable. Keep prior knowledge and later help visible when interpreting the first response. Stop at the supported use or repair conclusion. |
These two methods judge instructional material. For a person’s performance, transfer or retention, use HCD.11–HCD.13 above. An ordinary professional reference is evaluated for its lookup use unless it also promises instruction.
