A.15.11:4.2 - Make the relevance relation explicit

Read the candidate method’s operative instructions. Recover the result it can obtain, the inputs and capabilities it needs, and the conditions that limit its use. Connect that result to the receiving task.

A useful cue can take this form:

This feature of the work makes this question worth considering. This method could obtain this contribution, provided these conditions hold.

Use the language of the work. For example: “Before estimating the extra report, compare what decision it would improve with the report we already have.” Naming a pattern can provide access after this relation has become clear.

Try a nearby case in which the method should not be suggested. If the same cue recommends it there, refine the relation or leave the recommendation tentative. Shared terminology is a lead for investigation; applicability depends on what the operation would do under the actual conditions.
