C.40.JD:4.2 - Use present capabilities to develop the same agent

An agent can use a capability it already has to perform work through which it develops another of its capabilities. This can concern a person, an AI system, a team or an organization. The available capability supplies a contribution to that work; it need not supply the whole undertaking. For example, being able to construct a revealing comparison can help someone develop a new professional judgement, but does not supply missing subject knowledge, information access or authority. Begin with the intended changed possibilities, not with a presumption that every exercise or Method change is development.

Work backward from the wanted capability through E.23.CDI:4.2–4.2.1, then follow the proposed development forward with the agent’s actual means. Which operation must become possible? What would let the agent construct or acquire its way of performing that operation? What can it already do to obtain that contribution? An agent may already be able to recover an explanation, construct a trial, distinguish an error, obtain expert help or revise an arrangement. Explain how the selected action produces the input needed by the next action. If the agent can reconstruct a demonstrated solution but cannot judge an unfamiliar one, a trusted worked comparison can supply the missing judgement while it learns the relevant distinction. Do not quietly require the target capability in order to acquire it. If the development operation itself is unavailable, obtain that contribution or develop it under an attainable smaller question.

Use A.12 to expose who acts on what. Where acting and changed constituents are distinct parts of the same agent, Reflexive Split supplies the internal account. An organization’s method-development group can change the preparation of another group; an AI’s existing orchestration component can construct tests and install an authorized change in its retrieval component. Their part relations and the actual interaction belong to the chosen account. A capability, role or later edition alone does not identify either constituent. Select enough physical, software or organizational detail to make the intervention intelligible and decide it; an ordinary development choice does not require an anatomical account of a person. Preserve an adequate existing Reflexive Split and supply the missing development operations through the relevant Methods. A.12 identifies the participants and relation; it does not by itself teach the subject operation or establish its outcome.

The working connection has to survive enactment. In the proposed AI arrangement, the orchestrator’s existing test-construction ability produces contrasting queries and expected distinctions. A qualified source or evaluator supplies any judgement that the orchestrator cannot make. The permitted change modifies the retrieval component, and representative receiving queries test the capability of the resulting agent with its actual tools and remaining help. A changed file is not that capability result. For a person, a worked explanation, a chosen practice task and feedback can play corresponding roles, but the learning Method must explain how the person’s attempts and corrections develop the operation. Software installation is not a model of human learning. In an organization, changing an instruction still requires the relevant groups to acquire or obtain the operations, coordinate their work and have authority to perform it. The agent-specific Methods supply these mechanisms.

Keep external contributions visible without treating useful assistance as a failure. An outside specialist remains an outside contributor unless the chosen whole actually includes that contributor; its successful work is not automatically the recipient’s acquired capability. State which contributions the agent can subsequently perform or organize and which remain supplied. Then use the changed position through C.40.NP to form the next worthwhile question. When the acquired capability changes how the agent obtains subsequent development, trace that additional connection: for example, a newly learned way of examining errors can change the construction of the next practice task. Reusing an adequate way is legitimate. Improving the way of developing is needed when it changes an attainable result or burden, not as a compulsory extra cycle after every success.
