CB.3:5.2 - A first error can lead to another attempt
A newcomer in a voluntary reading group misinterprets an unfamiliar annotation convention and concludes that they are unsuited to the group. The host first checks the event: the convention was unexplained, and a willing reader can help. With that reader’s permission, the host offers a brief account of a similar early mistake and shows the corrected example. The newcomer chooses a small second attempt and receives a useful response.
In a changed case, an established member has mocked newcomers’ mistakes. The host addresses that behaviour and the protection of questions before using a reassuring story. The two cases require different repairs even though both people express the same worry.
