| Source line or developed treatment | Contribution used | Adaptation and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Spinks, The Business of Belonging (2021), physical PDF 45–54 | Distinguish support, product input, recommendation, contributed material and learning-oriented help; make the relevant answer obtainable, including for quiet users. | Business categories help expose different contributions but do not define every community purpose. The participant’s result and agreed burden remain part of the choice. |
| Wenger-Trayner et al., Communities of Practice Guidebook, second edition (2023), printed 145–156 and 175–178 | Develop case clinics, shorter design clinics, stories, project reviews, demonstrations and prepared external contributions with later returns. | Their outcomes differ. A story is contextual experience; broadened options still need examination; a guest visit supplies only its agreed contribution. |
| A. Levenchuk, community-development essay 1741983, 2024 | Distinguish work that participants can contribute in recruitment, support, co-design and maintenance. | Match each contribution to an actual recipient, domain method and permission; membership supplies no general authority to perform it. |
| OCE.6, OPS.6, SYSE.2 and MNT.1 | Obtain enabling relations; distinguish chosen action from performed work; develop a use-and-concept proposal; establish the maintenance question. | Use each supplier for its actual result. CB organises the contributions and returns, while those bodies retain their professional questions. |
The serious alternative is to leave the work with an adequate resource or accountable provider. Community contribution is worthwhile where relevant people can supply useful work under acceptable terms and a recipient can use it. Compared with an unrestricted call for help or ideas, the construction adds preparation and response effort while exposing unavailable contributions and unusable results earlier.
Reconsider the arrangement when the kind of work, receiving criteria, permission, contributor capacity or available alternative changes. A missing method or unaccepted product obligation returns to its direct owner.
