Timely acknowledgement and warranted claimsA contributor should not wait indefinitely for a response; the organiser must distinguish a known contribution from a later effect that is still unobserved.
Public credit and personal preferenceVisibility can help a person, while privacy, shared authorship or an unwanted association can make another form preferable.
Consistent treatment and different contributionsCommon criteria make an award understandable; comparable value cannot always be represented by a count of messages or hours.
Appreciation and controlA response can convey useful information and care, or make approval conditional on further unpaid effort.
A desirable opportunity and actual provisionAn introduction, learning place or special access is useful only when the relevant people, conditions and capacity support it.
