CB.9:11 - SoTA-Echoing

This pattern compares community programme design with the actual operating and accounting methods needed to provide it. The alternatives are compared at the effort of arranging one supported activity or programme period, rather than at the scale of an organisation-wide transformation.

David Spinks, The Business of Belonging (2021), physical PDF pp.59, 62–76 and 191–197Adapt the connection between objectives, programme work, support and organiser effort. Retain explaining consequential changes to participants. The business framing makes sponsor support concrete but does not make revenue the purpose of every community. Its lifecycle and numerical anecdotes are historical heuristics, not universal staffing rules.
Duolingo, announcement ending volunteer course creationUse the company’s explanation of its move to paid production as a bounded contrast: commercial conditions and standardised delivery can change an earlier voluntary arrangement. This is a historical company account, not an independent finding about contributors’ outcomes or a rule that every voluntary contribution must become paid.
MA.1/2 and OPS.5/14Adopt actual resource dependencies, available capacity, commitment admission and incremental payment timing when these questions are unresolved. This adds calculation where it can change the choice; a small already supported activity can use a simpler account. The calculation does not grant authority.
OCE.6/11 and ECO.7Adopt actual assignments and enabling relations, compatibility with continuing work, and shared-resource access/upkeep arrangements. These suppliers develop the organisational and economic work; CB.9 connects it to the participants’ offer and the supporters’ terms. A common purpose alone supplies none of those permissions.

The current useful answer combines a community contribution with effective provision and revisable terms. It retains independent access and non-commercial support as positive options. Current provider terms, payment conditions and applicable rules must be obtained for the particular arrangement; a historical example cannot establish them.
