HCD.22:0 - Use This When
Use this pattern when a learning purpose requires or plausibly benefits from interaction and the shared task must make the intended actions possible. Begin with the target contribution, qualified subject criteria, relevant preparation and the help that can actually be supplied.
The first useful result is a shared learning task: a sufficiently whole problem with a useful form of dependence, meaningful individual actions, a common result where needed, rules for access to others’ work, usable material transfers, feedback, recovery and an interpretable personal return. The task may involve discussion, joint manipulation, peer explanation or a shared product; these are different constructions.
The practical gain is making learning work visible inside collaboration. One person’s correct answer cannot silently stand in for every member’s judgement. Nor does the pattern require each person to rediscover an unfamiliar method alone before useful teaching can begin.
Do not use this pattern when interaction adds no needed contribution; use HCD.6 for a sufficient individual task. Use HCD.20 for size and full resource comparison, and HCD.21 for establishing or changing actual membership. A task requiring only a delivered team result belongs to its work method unless a learning contribution is also intended.
