HCD.22:4.5 - Select a coherent variant and adapt its working mechanism

Two established designs illustrate different dependencies.

Team-Based Learning. The official account connects preparation, individual readiness work, a team response to the same questions, immediate feedback, appeals and instructor clarification with application to a significant common problem requiring a specific choice and simultaneous reporting. Its purpose is not simply sitting in teams. If borrowing only the comparison of individual and team reasons, describe that adaptation and supply its needed preparation and feedback; do not imply implementation of the whole design. Fixed membership and assessment practices in the source are properties of that design, not rules for all HCD tasks.

Jigsaw. The official account distributes parts, uses expert-group preparation and rehearsal, then returns participants to teach their home groups, with individual assessment. The expert’s contribution is therefore something others must be able to learn and use. In an adaptation, prepare a way to restore an absent or mistaken part and test the recipient’s use. Simply dividing a report into sections omits that teaching dependence. The source’s illustrative group size is not a size criterion for another task.

For either variant, state what has changed, why the learning mechanism remains plausible, and what must be observed in the new setting. Avoid combining labels whose timing, preparation or feedback assumptions conflict. Another construction, including active shared-equipment work, can be more suitable.
