HCD.23:0 - Use This When
Use this pattern when learners can encounter different answers or grounds and explaining their difference can develop the reasoning needed for later work. People may agree on an answer while understanding it differently, or disagree because one has noticed a condition the others missed.
The governed contribution is learning through explaining and comparing reasons. The wider shared task can include producing a joint result, but this method makes participants reconstruct, challenge and use the reasoning themselves. The first useful result is an explained comparison and a subsequent personal application with its assistance visible.
Begin with a task and subject criteria that can distinguish warranted answers. Where learners lack the prerequisites for any meaningful explanation, supply a demonstration, accessible contrast or other preparation first. HCD.6.1 develops a missing distinction. Where the only need is to obtain an answer from an expert, a learning exchange can add unnecessary work.
