• Participants can recover the intended result and consequential contributions.
• The intervention follows evidence of a relevant difference.
• Process, subject, access and timing problems receive fitting remedies.
• The cue or change fits the available work window.
• Actual uptake and subsequent work are inspected.
• Any claim about participant regulation distinguishes it from facilitator performance.
