HCE.Reference:7 - What preserves the whole when its Methods change?
The discipline retains its identity while particular theories, teaching techniques, instruments and service arrangements change, provided knowledge of human change remains connected to deliberate capability construction, actual human performance and warranted reconsideration. The engineering target is still the person’s capability; the person’s participation, permitted interventions and applicable professional conditions constrain how it can be pursued.
A replacement contribution must preserve the relations on which its receiving use relies. A different movement-teaching Method can replace a SOM contribution for a particular programme when it supplies the required bodily action, retains the relevant whole-task conditions and supports the needed judgement. The words used to describe sensations can differ. HCD.5 and HCD.14 supply the corresponding Method choice and evidence-based revision.
Changes run in both directions. A new observation can revise the bodily explanation or the programme; a changed task can invalidate the former test; a changed helper can alter what the person must supply. Compatible results remain usable while the affected assumption is reconsidered. The existence of a revised description does not establish a new personal capability.
This specialization can contribute to a larger engineering arrangement joining human, organizational and technical capabilities. Each holder’s means of change and evidence remain identifiable. A successful service can require all three while still leaving a separate question about what one human can do. The broader system’s purpose and acceptance therefore do not replace the human result specified here.
If an additional field supplies a human mechanism and consequential connections that the current pair lacks, the assembly can expand. If a proposed addition only shares an audience or supports an occasional use, an external return may be sufficient. The same comparison can justify keeping a contribution outside, changing a boundary or using a better independent source.
