Library.Reference:1.3 - A canon for shared human–AI culture
The Library articulates a culture of thinking and acting oriented toward the open-ended development of people, AI agents and their joint practice. It can serve as that culture’s canon: a common, revisable body of explanations, methods, worked cases and grounds for judgement. Participants can use this repertoire to choose and perform work, examine its results and develop better ways of continuing. The canon makes the shared practice recoverable and revisable across different situations.
People and AI agents can both sustain and renew this culture through their work. An AI contribution may be assistance with one operation or participation as a teammate responsible for an agreed contribution. The working arrangement determines who can perform, decide, check and change what. Shared use therefore combines different capabilities and responsibilities; each participant needs access to the contributions relevant to its work. No individual has to internalize the whole Library. C.32.MWA.PP explains how to construct and compare such arrangements.
Acquiring and sustaining the practice requires different means for different participants. People may need explanation, repeated practice, feedback and support for participation. AI agents need suitable capabilities, access to the relevant material, execution support and continuity of attention and task context. Giving an agent a text can enable a contribution; its subsequent work shows whether it actually used the method and obtained a useful result. C.36.RP and C.36.MC connect the shared repertoire to these different ways of obtaining, reconstructing and renewing practice.
For example, a person and an AI teammate can use the same engineering methods while dividing model construction, criticism and decisions according to capability and authority. A changed requirement calls for recovering the affected assumptions and revising their connected work. The person may need to learn a missing judgement; the agent may need better access to evidence or a changed execution procedure. A useful result can then expose a further attainable problem or a better method. The connected development account explains that continuation and the distinctions between assistance, learning, cultural renewal and development. A publication supplies the canon; actual use, retention and renewal establish the culture in practice.
For the connected practical account, section 9.2 explains how to choose and organize help, and section 9.3 explains how people and AI acquire, sustain and renew their shared practice. Its forecast case shows how available conditions change the useful continuation.
