MDPE.19:1 - Problem
Music and Dance practices are reproduced by arrangements of actual Work, Methods, performer and audience capabilities, bodies and instruments, teaching, organizers, venues, media, memory, recognition, and selection. These contributions can fail on different time scales.
A visible trace often hides that structure. A school publishes a class schedule, but only one teacher can make the partner practice work. An ensemble owns a score, but its instrument and performer cannot be replaced. A video preserves a choreography while timing, partner response, improvisation, and teaching knowledge have vanished. A platform reports many views while few practitioners can recognize or enact the style. Conversely, a practice can continue under a new label or medium and be wrongly declared lost.
The expensive error is to protect the visible trace while the reproduction arrangement collapses—or to fund a restoration project without finding the relation that actually prevents another representative occurrence. The project needs a bounded answer about reproduction, not a declaration about culture in general or a new experiment merely to complete that answer.
