MDPE.22:3 - Solution

Choose one intended Music-or-Dance result, recover the surrounding relation that blocks or distorts it, compare several bounded environment changes, realize one change through the relevant engineering or management Method, and observe actual practice before deciding what to keep.

The following sections describe one useful sequence of work under this Method. The environment description is a selected structural view. In continuing programmes, environment Work, Music-or-Dance Work, observation, and revision can overlap.

MDPE.22:3.1 - Name the Music-or-Dance result before the infrastructure

Begin with the Work or cultural relation that should change. Examples include:

  • another receiving Agent performs representative partner-dance Work outside class;
  • musicians can rehearse and present a live-coding Method under usable acoustic and technical conditions;
  • an audience or jury recognizes a rhythmic, movement, or interaction distinction that currently disappears;
  • a variant remains reconstructible after a tool, venue, teacher, or organizer change;
  • several alternatives survive a selection event; or
  • practitioners can return an archive result to a current teaching, performance, attribution, or restoration decision.

State the practitioner population, place, period, affected Systems, success observation, and evidence limit. Do not start with “build a community,” “launch a platform,” or “create an ecosystem.” Those phrases do not say what Music-or-Dance result should improve.

MDPE.22:3.2 - Recover the current supporting relation

Use observations from MDPE.12, MDPE.13, MDPE.17, MDPE.18, and MDPE.19 when compatible. Inspect the current environment through the result it is expected to support.

Cultural or practice relationEnvironment questions
generationDo performers have material, instruments, bodies or effectors, time, tools, rehearsal, and permission to produce several variants?
performanceDo the venue, technical Systems, schedules, coordination, safety, and provider capability allow representative Work?
transmissionDo provider and receiving Agents participate, is the source content accessible, and is teaching or rehearsal Work performed under the relevant varied receiving conditions?
recognitionCan the relevant audience, partner, teacher, curator, sensor, or jury perceive the difference that the project needs?
selectionWhich programming, judging, recommendation, funding, repertoire, or participation choice amplifies or removes variants?
memoryCan source material, descriptions, testimony, configuration information, and embodied knowledge be found and used by a current decision?
continuationWhich performer, teacher, organizer, venue, instrument, software, or support relation has no credible replacement over the chosen horizon?

Choose the smallest relation whose change could alter the intended result. A whole-scene redesign is rarely a bounded project. A weekly social-practice opportunity, another qualified Agent’s recurring teaching contribution, equipment maintenance, an audience-comparison session, or an archive return to one current decision may be enough for the first test.

MDPE.22:3.3 - Generate alternatives that change different relations

Generate alternatives from different parts of the support arrangement. For a dance practice that remains trapped in class, alternatives might include:

  • add a recurring social practice with suitable music and varied partners;
  • change the teaching Method so class Work includes partner response and uncued use;
  • develop another organizer and teacher rather than add more learner places;
  • partner with an existing event instead of creating a new venue; or
  • keep the class as a stage or fitness practice and stop claiming social-practice transfer.

For a live-coding Music line, alternatives might change rehearsal access, technical support, performer onboarding, event curation, audience orientation, streaming configuration, or follow-up publication. They are different because they change different relations and can produce different failure modes.

Keep enough genuinely different alternatives to avoid treating the first infrastructure idea as inevitable. A low-cost probe is useful only when its attainable contribution warrants its whole burden; neither its low price nor this comparison requires a further experiment after a sufficient result. C.17–C.19 and MDPE.16 govern stronger open-ended alternative sets.

MDPE.22:3.4 - Select a bounded change with authority and operating continuity

Compare alternatives by the Music-or-Dance result, required capability, time, resources, safety, access, moved burden, reversible learning, and consequences for alternatives. Identify the Agent who can decide and the relation that gives that Agent authority.

Use the relevant DPF result or direct domain Method:

  • Systems Engineering for the supporting System, interfaces, configurations, evidence, and enabling Systems;
  • Organization Change Engineering when the change alters who may request, undertake or accept Work, or the authority and participation relations among those organizational roles;
  • Operations Management for recurring event or service Work, demand, queues, capacity, quality and reliability, including who is already assigned which Work and the remaining capacity under existing authority;
  • Organization Administration for access, verification, authorization, records, and service provision;
  • Human Capability Development for human teaching and transfer; and
  • direct Music, Dance, production, venue, platform, archive, safety, legal, financial, and maintenance Methods for their own Work.

Protect continuing Work when the change occurs. A festival cannot cancel the only existing practice line merely to test a new one unless the authorized decision and affected-system consequences support that choice. A platform or archive change must preserve source, permission, configuration, and recovery conditions proportionate to the risk.

MDPE.22:3.5 - Perform the environment change and observe each result separately

A capable Agent performs the chosen environment-change Work, and that Work enacts the applicable direct domain Method. Then answer three questions separately: did the intended surrounding relation begin to hold; what later Music-or-Dance Work or cultural relation was observed; and did the project need a causal-contribution claim?

Weak completion claimObservations needed for the current decision
“The class launched.”Did the scheduled teaching and access relations obtain, and did learners later perform the intended Work under representative conditions?
“The venue was booked.”Was the use permitted, were time and suitable floor or acoustic conditions available, did capable providers and intended participants take part, and did the intended Work recur?
“The platform feature shipped.”Did the named discovery, receiving use, attribution, payment, participation, or event-provision relation obtain, and what later Music-or-Dance Work was observed?
“The archive was digitized.”Could an authorized practitioner retrieve and use the material in a current decision or Work occurrence, with source, consent, embodied knowledge and representation limits visible?
“The competition category was added.”What differences became observable or selectable, what valuable variation became harder to present, and whose Work or burden changed?
“The robot performed.”Can the configured performing whole, operator capability, maintenance, calibration, safety and event provision support another occurrence?

A failed, unchanged or worsened trial is a complete first result when it identifies the tested relation and informs the current decision. If a new weekly event attracts observers but learner pairs do not perform the intended receiving Work, do not call the event a functioning arrangement or optimize promotion by default. Return the event relations that obtained, the failed receiving Work, moved burden and the supported keep, revise or stop. A next discriminating change is selected only when it is feasible and its expected contribution warrants its whole burden, including designing the trial.

Later difference does not by itself establish intervention effect. Use C.28 only when the decision depends on the environment change having caused that difference. A reversible keep, revise, or stop decision can often rely on the weaker but truthful result: the relation now obtains and the stated later observation occurred under the changed arrangement.

MDPE.22:3.6 - Keep, revise, branch, reverse, or stop

Return the tested result and current decision. Include a causal-use field only for a causal claim. A failed or sufficient keep/stop result needs no future experiment field.

intended Music-or-Dance Work or cultural relation:
selected surrounding relation and current failure:
environment-change Work, deciding Agent, authority, and direct Method:
did the intended surrounding relation obtain?:
later Music-or-Dance observations, including no change or worsening:
if a causal contribution is used: the C.28-supported claim and limits:
moved burdens, lost alternatives, and uncertainty:
decision — keep | revise | branch | reverse | stop:
decision-changing reopen condition; next observation only for a selected further inquiry:

Call an arrangement functioning only when the relations required by its stated use obtain. Call a later difference an intervention effect only when the admitted C.28 result supports that causal use. Neither word is required for a complete failed or inconclusive result.

A positive local observation establishes no culture-wide adoption, source contribution, attractor, new level, or new cultural whole. Use MDPE.24 when treating the practice as a new whole could change the project subject, architecture, or another development decision. Use MDPE.20 for competing future trajectories.

A compact return can read:

A festival added a three-hour social-practice block, prepared two organizers, and changed the music and floor arrangement for a named partner-Dance use. At the second event, twelve learners attempted uncued partner-responsive Work with varied partners; eight completed it and four still required teacher cues. The event relation obtained and the mixed receiving result was observed under the changed arrangement. Causal contribution was not tested. Suppose two further protected trials have available participants and a useful window, and their expected contribution warrants the design, teaching and participant burden; the project selects them to address the remaining cue dependence. This is not formation of a city scene or durable cultural continuation.
