PSD.14:11 - SoTA-Echoing
The practice question is how to keep decision support useful under change without confusing observation with decision or causing indiscriminate recomputation. The selected line designs decision-linked evidence and interpretation, combines targeted and unexpected-change coverage where warranted, and returns only the affected question. The trade-off is explicit observation and interpretation effort; lower-burden arrangements remain preferable when they cover the actual use.
| Question and selected move | Serious alternative, defect and changed locus | Source role, limit and reopen condition |
|---|---|---|
| What should cause reconsideration? Adapt named signposts and switch/reconsideration conditions tied to the actual decision. | A fixed periodic review is adequate for slowly changing, covered conditions; alone it can miss a consequential change before the next decision. Sections 4.2–4.6 connect evidence, timing and affected result without treating a signal as automatic authority. | Lynch et al. (2025), RAD switch points and triggers for adaptation planning, is a current domain line using three natural-resource cases for iterative reevaluation. It supplies no universal threshold, response or institution. Reopen when a better-supported rival or changed decision window defeats this observation design. |
| Should follow-up only test the predicted outcome? Adapt a proportionate combination of targeted questions and observation for unexpected change. | Targeted tests are efficient for a specified uncertainty; broad surveillance can expose unanticipated change but adds burden and weakly identified signals. Sections 4.2–4.3 and 5.1 compare the mix instead of prescribing either alone. | Manley et al. (2026), Meeting the moment, Discussion / “Change is inevitable, learning is critical”, is a contemporary environmental decision-support perspective distinguishing these monitoring uses, not a comparative effectiveness trial. Reopen on representative evidence that another mix covers the material questions with less burden or delay. |
| Does a returned recommendation end every relationship obligation? Adapt bounded service continuation and closure while keeping renewed advice a later application. | Ending all contact at delivery may fit a one-off analytical request but not an obtaining service duty; indefinite monitoring creates the opposite failure. Sections 4.4 and 4.7 require the actual relationship and end condition. | ICMCI v4.0, C.1.1–2, is a professional comparator for assignment closure. NCDA 2024, A.10, governs its own service continuity/referral. Neither establishes a universal contract. Reopen when the actual service or applicable duties change. |
