RHY.12:4.1 - Choose the relation to develop in the intended passage

Start with a recognizable attempt and the intended continuation. Select the relation that must become available: keeping a reference through silence, changing articulation without changing the underlying movement, coordinating a phrase with a different grouping, entering from a preparation cue, or correcting displacement while keeping the intended pace.

Use RHY.1 when several explanations of the difficulty remain plausible. Establish a demonstrable target, including a permissible variant when the practice allows one. A learner should be able to hear, see or otherwise recover what is to change. A numerical timing tolerance is useful only when the receiving task needs it.

Locate the limiting contribution within the performed whole. A turn may require balance throughout a rotation; musical articulation may require control of release while the hand continues moving. Strength, sequence memory and successful counting do not substitute for those contributions. Obtain missing bodily, instrumental or perceptual instruction from the relevant practitioner. Continue an encompassing activity only under conditions the performer can manage.
