Counting fluency can hide missing control of duration or movement. A familiar teaching convention can also make a teacher underestimate what it supplies to the learner. Inspect the contribution that succeeds and the one that still fails, including joint performance. Keep a learner’s current limitation separate from a fixed trait or a general judgment about musicality.
